Whatever a post-COVID-19 world looks like, I\’m hoping that it will bring a renewed understanding and awareness of the importance of city resilience. My hope is that this is not narrowly focused on physical distancing and other pandemic-specific, short-term measures. Rather, what is needed is a strategic, long-term, and proactive look at the multiple shocks (instant) and stresses (chronic) facing our cities.
I first wrote about city resilience five years ago, see here and here. I have continued to question and develop my understanding of this topic and have recently shared my thoughts during a webinar for the Emirates Green Building Council (see video above). My comments on the impact of and response to COVID-19 start at minute 35:00.
I will continue to share thoughts and links on this critical and evolving topic inshaAllah (God willing)… some recent articles I\’ve found helpful are included below:
Architecture after coronavirus
World cities turn their streets over to walkers and cyclists
The geography of Coronavirus [is density bad?]
Never again as before [urban health post COVID-19]
Please do share resources you have found insightful in the comments section, would love to read them!
