Dubai Building Code
Led the environment and sustainability workstream for the development of the new unified Dubai Building Code (2019 – 2020). This included extensive engagement with senior members of government and semi-government stakeholders to identify current regulations, gaps, and opportunities and provide cost effective policy solutions to building design and construction.
Sharjah Strategic Urban Plan 2040
Led a multidisciplinary team to deliver a high-profile strategic urban plan for Emirate of Sharjah, covering a large number of planning and policy workstreams. The project focused on developing a compelling urban vision and related spatial strategies for the Emirate to improve quality of life and achieve sustainable development.
Detailed Master Plan Stage - Expo 2020, HOK Architecture, DWTC
Huda was the project manager for the Arup design team managing and integrating inputs from over ten specialist teams including mobility, logistics, infrastructure, sustainability, environment, security, GIS, and digital to deliver leadership’s vision for a cutting-edge master plan. Also also led most of the extensive stakeholder engagement and managed relevant authority approvals.
Abu Dhabi Plan Capital 2030 Update, Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council
Huda was a member of the project core team leading the environmental workstream including the development of the region-wide spatial framework, policies, and KPIs, as part of the multidisciplinary international planning and design team. This involved working closely with the Urban Planning Council in Abu Dhabi, as well as the Environment Agency and other stakeholders.
Integrated Public Transport Network, Fluor - Abu Dhabi Department of Transport
Over three years, Huda was the lead environment and sustainability planner for the program management consultancy team.
Sustainability Framework and Rating System for a Major Rail Project
Led the development of the GCC’s first comprehensive sustainability framework and rating system for a major rail project, working with international and local experts. Her responsibilities also included managing the environmental permitting process for major public transport projects (e.g. metro, LRT) as well as overseeing the implementation of program-wide sustainability framework.
Confidential Housing Revitalisation Master Plan
Huda was the Project Director on an ambitious project to develop a strategy for the revitalization of a number of old residential neighborhoods in the UAE. The project also involved developing a pilot concept master plan for one of the areas, to demonstrate the technical and financial feasibility of revitalization strategies for residential and mixed-use neighborhoods, including strategies such as densification, green infrastructure, and complete communities.
Jumeirah Central, 5+Design : Dubai Holding
The role was to provide sustainability and local context advice during the concept master plan stage through multidisciplinary design workshops. Her inputs helped set ambitious KPIs and strategies for the project on topics such as walkability, comfort, energy efficiency, and smart solutions.
Confidential Master plan, Al Akaria Saudi Real Estate Company
Led the development of the sustainability framework and strategy for a large-scale mixed-use project in Riyadh, with the ambitious goal of catalyzing the transition toward achieving the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
Madinat Zayed Framework Master Plan, Urban Planning Council, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Huda was the lead sustainability consultant, setting sustainability objectives and targets, working with the master plan team to integrate sustainability, and developing a pathway for achieving a 2 and 4 Pearl rating for the communities.
Confidential Strategic Master Plan - Qatar Foundation
Huda provided input to this strategic master plan through outlining environmental assessment processes and requirements to be followed, in line with international best practices and local Ministry of Environment requirements.
